Sample Detailed Itinerary

Our detailed itinerary is currently under construction as we’re researching and updating our trip! This itinerary is a great resource for getting an idea of what kind of experiences you’ll have when you travel with us to Italy.

Day One

Benvenuto in Italia! Upon arrival at the Florence Airport (FLR) we will have a driver waiting for you. Your driver will take you in a private car on a 1.5 - 2 hour drive through the Tuscan countryside to the town of Cortona. Our tour host will meet you at the hotel lobby upon arrival to help with check-in. Once you’ve had a minute to settle in, we’ll have a meet-and-greet at the hotel to kick off our shared adventure.

We will have a short introduction and welcome before heading off on a walking tour of Cortona led by a Cortona native. After getting more familiar with the area, we’ll head to a local restaurant for our welcome dinner.

Day Two

In the morning, we’ll meet in the hotel lobby where we’ll travel about 1 hour 15 minutes in our private van to visit a “full-circle” farm, meaning their agricultural methods are all organic so there are no synthetic fertilizers or chemicals used in the whole farming process. The basic difference between sustainable and organic farming methods is that organic farming, when done on a large scale, can still be harmful to the environment. However, a full-circle agricultural system utilizes more ecologically sensible practices and poses no harm to the environment. It’s a fully sustainable method of farming.

We’ll tour the farm, learn its unique history, and taste the unforgettable cheese made on site from the farm’s cows. We’ll also have lunch at the far, feasting on the freshest produce, cheeses, and hand-made pastas.

After the farm, we’ll next explore one of the things Tuscany is most well known for - wine! We’ll make our way to the countryside around Montalcino, home to the famous Brunello wine, to stop at a biodynamic wine estate. Here a young, dynamic and motivated team treats grapes, soil, wine, and people as they always should be treated: like different, inestimable components of an interconnected system embracing life in its whole. Their absolute reverence for Nature finds the acme in a cellar built following the Golden Ratio, the mathematical value that expresses the ideal relation between a whole and its parts. We’ll tour the vineyard and taste the estate’s best wines served directly by their makers.

We will return to our hotel in the late afternoon and you will have the rest of the evening to yourself. You’re welcome to have dinner at the hotel restaurant (reservation required) or take the short walk into town, stroll through the cobblestone streets, and pop into a place that catches your eye!

Day Three

This morning, we'll explore the Cortona market with our friend, Antonella, and purchase ingredients for our cooking class and dinner.

After the market tour, lunch and the afternoon are on your own, and today is a public holiday in Italy! Live like a local and enjoy the festivities around town.

We'll meet back together in the late afternoon and take a short drive to Antonella's home, where she will teach us how to make some of the most traditional Tuscan dishes. For dinner, we'll feast on the fruits of our labor on her patio.

Day Four

Your luggage will be picked up from your hotel room and you’ll meet the group in the hotel lobby to check out and prepare for our journey through small towns on our way toward Florence. We’ll drive approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to the medieval town of Anghiari.

We’ll begin our day in this picturesque town with a special visit to the Busatti factory with the owners of this beloved textile brand. Walk through the looms from the 1800’s that are still in use, and learn why this family has maintained their production in the same way it’s been done for generations. After our tour, Giovanni will host us in his private villa for a morning aperitivo while he shares with us his personal collection of artwork.

Next, we’ll take a short walk from the factory to a local restaurant for lunch and feast on traditional cuisine. After lunch, we’ll have a bit of free time to take pictures of the town, shop at the Busatti showroom, or grab an espresso at a local café.

We’ll continue on to our small hotel, a traditional 16th-century castle in the countryside that has been lovingly restored. After check-in and some time to freshen up, we’ll tour the property and the wine cellar with the hotel’s sommelier, Gianmarco. We will end the evening with an aperitivo outdoors; enjoy this Italian tradition of wine and heavy appetizers!

Day Five

Today we enjoy a leisurely morning before departing for one of our favorite wineries tucked away in the rolling Tuscan hills. We’ll visit a picturesque vineyard and spend the morning sipping local wines and hearing stories from winemakers. The countryside with its rolling hills and rows of grape vines will capture your heart and your stomach.

After our tasting, we’ll have a relaxed lunch - with of course more wine! - then head back to the hotel where we’ll have a bit of free time before our final activity together - Sip & Paint with Lisa! Sip on local Tuscan wine as Lisa guides you through a watercolor class. By the end of the workshop, you'll be a watercolor master and will have the perfect memento to take home with you.

At our farewell dinner, we’ll enjoy a multiple-course menu specially paired with the local wines sourced from surrounding areas.

Day Six

On our day of departure, we will have an optional group breakfast at the hotel. Then you will have a private driver take you to the airport in Florence (FLR) or the train station if you have an onward destination in Italy.
